DAY 1: ARRIVAL & WELCOME TO NAIROBI

On arrival at the JKIA, we will be there to meet you for assistance and transfer to your hotel of stay. Freshen up before we proceed for an introductory city tour (''Nairobi by Night'')- time of arrival will dictate. This short excursion covers the main highlights of the `city in the sun’ with visits to parliamentary buildings, the city market and surrounding bazaars, KICC. Dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant before returning to your hotel for a pre safari briefing and overnight stay. Safari Club/Laico Regency/House of Waine-(DBB)

DAY 2: NAIROBI/MASAAI MARA

The Mara-Kenya’s Masai Mara is arguably the most famous reserve. It’s smooth grass carpeted hills and plains dotted with flat topped acacia trees are full of rich faunal diversity, fulfilling the expectations of any visitor searching the African landscape for the BIG 5. Located west of the Great Rift Valley, Mara is a natural extension of the Serengeti plains in the neighbouring Tanzania. The Mara River, the reserve’s backbone traverses north to south. This course is the natural barrier crossed each year by large migratory heard of wildebeest and zebra which march across the two parks in search of pasture, crossing en route, the crocodile infested Mara River. Coupled with ever watchful predatory cats in the midst, the annual migration is a risky affair and fraught with peril. Morning and evening game drives through the Mara reserve gives you a chance of spotting a diverse array of wildlife including elephants, giraffe, black rhino, cheetah, gazelle, buffalo, hippo, various other herbivores and bird species.

Leave Nairobi in the morning at 8.30 am drive to the view point of the great rift valley, descend the escarpment and drive via Narok for lunch then to Masaai Mara famous for its black manned lions and yearly migration of wildebeests. Game viewing in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at a Tented campsite. Mara Bush Camp/Entim Mara /Karen Blixen Camp (B, L,D)

DAY 3: MASAAI MARA.

A full day spent game viewing a cross the rich, tree studded grassland and rolling hills. The famous Mara is renowned for its great herds of plain game, black-maned lions, leopard and cheetah but also contains numerous elephant and virtually every type of wildlife to be found in the Mara . All meals and over night at a Luxury Tented Camp.( B, L,D)

DAY 4: MASAAI MARA/L.NAKURU- (B, L,D)

Lake Nakuru-Lake Nakuru is world famous for, and was created a National Park, to protect its stunning flocks of lesser flamingo, which literally turn its shores pink. Its birdlife is world renowned: a beacon for leading ornithologists, scientists and wildlife film-makers. The park spans an attractive range of wooded and bush grassland around the lake offering wide ecological diversity, from lake water, woodland to the rocky escarpments and ridges.

 

Notable game within the lake includes hippo and clawless otters. On the shores roam waterbuck, Bohor's Reedbuck and zebra. The woodlands and forest are now home to both black and white rhino. In 1987, only two black rhinos remained following the ravages of poaching. By creating a rhino sanctuary within the park and reintroducing a breeding herd from Laikipia, the K.W.S. has now successfully re-established rhino in the park.

Game viewing is relatively easy: buffalo, leopard, lion, Rothschild's giraffe, Black and White Colobus monkey are plentiful in the forest. The bushlands offer eland, steinbok, impala, Chandler's reedbuck and dik dik, whilst rock hyrax and klipspringer occupy the cliffs and escarpment.

Pre breakfast game drive, return to campsite for late breakfast and leave your campsite and proceed to L.Nakuru arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Maili Saba Luxury Camp/Mbweha Camp.

DAY 5: NAKURU/NAIVASHA-(B,L,D)

After breakfast proceed for a game drive in L.Nakuru National park known for it’s millions of flamingos and other water birds. Leave Nakuru for  Lake Naivasha region-approxinately 80Km to arrive at the Crater Lake in time for Lunch. Overnight at Crater Lake Camp-Honeymoon Suite

The camp is built on the shores of green volcanic lake in the bottom of an old volcanic crater.The crater is 87 hectares in extent and the lake takes up to 14 hectares of this area.Over the last four years,the camp has been awarded a total of four awards by the Kenya travel Magazine “Travel News and Lifestyle” including Best tented camp in Kenya and Best Weekend getaway.It has also gained the reputation of being the most romantic camp in Kenya.The camp is open for 24 hours.

Activities at the camp are centred round nature and wildlife.There are guided nature walks in the crater and the Sanctuary.The bird list is over 400 species,of which it is easy to spot more than 100 species in a day. There  are 30 species of wildlife in the sanctuary .At night the Hippo come out of the main Naivasha lake to graze,and it is possible to see the Aardvark and spring hares on night game drives.There is a colony of over 70 Colombus monkeys living here,In addition for the most of the year are Flamingoes covering almost the entire lake,numbers of which can go upto 3-4000 .

DAY 6: NAIVASHA-NAIROBI-85km/ 1 hr

Leave Naivasha after lunch, proceeding to Nairobi with a leisurely drive stopping at the Great Rift Valley View Point for photos and some curios/souvenirs. Overnight at the Nairobi Serena Hotel.-BB

DAY 7-9: 2 NIGHTS SHOMPOLE ROMANTIC GET AWAY BY ROAD

This two night’s romantic getaway takes you to the floor of the rift valley. Here you enjoy the chic, simple luxury at the award-winning Shompole Lodge which is situated in the beautiful Great Rift Valley. Each tented room at this Kenya safari accommodation provides a shady oasis and boasts private cool-pools. Those who have visited Shompole define it as’ HEAVEN ON EARTH’. Find out for yourself.

After breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up and begin your drive to Shompole. The drive from Nairobi is approximately 4 hours. Smooth road from Nairobi to Magadi and rough terrain thereafter. You arrive in time for lunch at  the lodge. In the evening go for a Sun downer at the Nguruman Escarpment.

DAY 8: SHOMPOLE

Early morning game drive using the lodges 4 x 4, return to the lodge for breakfast. You can then go for guided walks in Shompole. Night drives are also provided at the lodge at no extra fee. You will basically spend the rest of day enjoying activities at the Lodge. Dinner and overnight at Shompole.

DAY 9: SHOMPOLE-NAIROBI

Early morning game drive for those who wish, you thereafter return to the lodge for Bush breakfast. You then check out of your lodge return to Nairobi. Drop off at the airport for your onward flight.

Please note that Shompole do not provide twin rooms, only singles and double rooms
